Joel began his career in the industry in 1989 after active duty military service. He holds a degree in Horticulture along with many accreditations, including Landscape Industry Certified Manager and Technician, and Professional Fertilizer Applicator. He is certified by the Interlocking Concrete and Permeable Pavers Institutes, and in both MD and DC in five different categories of pesticide application.
He has served as president of the Landscape Contractors Association of MD/VA/DC, and has chaired the International Certification Council for PLANET, a well-known national landscape organization. Joel has won over 80 landscape awards for projects he designed or installed.
Joel is the President of Fine Earth Landscape, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the firm.
A licensed Landscape Architect, ISA-Certified Arborist and a Certified Professional Horticulturist, Bernie has won landscape installation awards in each of the past four decades. His work has been featured in Time Life Books and various magazines, including Regardies, Washingtonian, Bethesda and Home & Design.
Bernie enjoys doing projects for friends, their referrals and previous clients, some of whom have been working with him for nearly 40 years. Throughout his career, he has served several terms as an officer of the Landscape Contractors Association, where he helped develop the current regional landscape specifications. Bernie is especially proud to have been chosen to design and supervise the installation of the Vice Presidents’ Family Heritage Garden at the U.S Naval Observatory in in Washington, D.C.
Bernie founded Fine Earth Landscape while attending the University of Maryland in 1977.
Judith began her career in 1976 in England as a greenhouse grower at Wye College. She immigrated to America to study Horticulture at Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from the University of Maryland.
Landscape design has blended Judith’s artistic talents with her knowledge of plants, a combination she enjoys sharing with her clients. She has won awards for projects she has designed and installed from The Landscape Contractors Association, and the highly-regarded national organization, PLANET. She is proud to have participated in the creation of the Vice Presidents’ Family Heritage Garden in Washington, D.C.
Judith oversees design and installation projects in the Washington metropolitan areas.
Teri’s love of plants and gardening resulted in a second career. After earning a degree in graphic design, she worked as a print production manager and a graphic designer for several years. Eight years ago, she went back to school to earn a degree in Landscape Design.
During this time, Teri worked her way up the ranks of the landscape industry, beginning as a volunteer at Brookside Gardens. She also worked at a full-service nursery, eventually becoming a Master Gardener.
Teri is a designer with Fine Earth Landscape.
